There is a dip stick on the transmission - it is short and doesn't extend up into the engine bay. Check the owners manual and it tells you where it is located.

I just check the manual and it does not have a dipstick for the auto trans. It also state to let dealer check for oil...etc I want to check it my own rather. It does contain descriptive information regarding how to check manual trans though. Anyone out there knows how?

I guess you check it like it says in the manual even though it will be a real pain in the butt to do so.

The manual does not tell you how to check the fluid level....

The only way to check the fluid level on a 05+ auto tranny mustang is to buy this tool

and follow this procedure: the video is for an Explorer but it's the identical tranny and procedure.


To sum it up, have the car on a level surface, you remove the hexed center nut on the drain plug of the tranny pan. Install the tool. Add fluid and anything let the extra drain out. When it stops draining, you've reached the appropriate level. Remove the tool, reinstall the hex.

thanks, there gotta be a easier way. How does dealership check auto trans oil?

There is a dipstick on the 2011+ automatic, I'll have to go out and pull my manual out of the car.

2005-10 there is no dipstick, and the video Derf00 posted is the way it is done.

i read my manual, it says auto dont have a dipstick lol. Please tell me the manual is wrong, it would make it alot eaier with a dipstick
