Gas smell and O2 sensor burnout

So my O2 sensors having been burning themselves up for the past few months, this will have been my 3rd set (I always replace both), I thought the issue had been I was putting 91 octane in sometimes for a 93 tune...but sticking to 87 didn't solve the problem for a new set of sensors.

So what happens is after about a month, I get an engine code that says bank 1 sensor 1 stuck lean biased. When I pull out the sensor it is all covered in black stuff, the drivers side never looks as bad but it doesn't look new either.

Another symptom, I read somewhere it could be a fuel regulator because I have noticed that when I start my car I probably have a solid minute of a light 'gasoline' type smell but then it goes away.

Other weird symptoms, could be unrelated...but sometimes I have a slightly rougher idle...if I have the AC on then I am more likely to have a rougher idle. It isn't violent rough, but it is rough enough that you can tell when the engine switches from running smooth, to running less smooth.

Something also to take note of...my car is at 155k miles.

Putting in 91 octane on a 93 tune is foolish. Don't do it.

Secondly, you never said how you knew your O2 sensors were bad or burned up. It sounds more like there is a tuning issue than anything.

Have you data logged the tune and had your tuner look at it?

Running an OBD-II scanner the O2 sensor that was shouting out the error code was at extremely low voltage compared to the other side, it wasn't zero, but it was ridiculously low. I also switched the sensors from one side to another and the low voltage followed it.

I know I was stupid on the octane thing, I rarely ran 93 tune...I was on a roadtrip and while at home I had access to 93, I could only find 91 on the road...no 93 in the middle of freakin Nebraska... Mustang Rally in Sturgis was a lot of fun though.

My tuner is Bama so I guess I will contact them but my car is pretty old, I just wanted to make sure something isn't broken on my car.

Did you figure things out?? I am actually having the same problem.
