Tie Rods failing

I'd get a second opinion if you can't check them yourself. Stealerships pull this all the time. They aren't satisfied with just a 75.00 alignment job. They can't eat lobster at that price. I would like to have a dollar for all the good parts they replace.

Hey guys,
So my 2007 GT with 70k miles just went into the shop, and the guys said all my tire rods need to be replaced and an alignment needs to be done. They are quoting me about $800 for everything. Anyone had this done? That price sound right? Should I get aftermarket tire rods?
Thanks!

What made them check out the tie-rods? Did you complain about a steering issue?
The Outer tierods are hella easy. The inner ones may require a special tool like one of these

Regardless, an alignment is 70-90 from a dealer, you can get the Motorcraft brand Tie rods from Rock Auto for about $140 for both inners and outers or buy whatever brand you want for a little less. At most $230 if you DIY. That includes the alignment by the ford shop.

Thanks guys.
I think I'll just do it myself. They told me about it while the were doing the "works" package.
There is a little steering wheel shake once I go over 60mph. I'm guessing that is related?

Depends, 60mph is the harmonic frequency of tires... meaning, if your tires are out of balance, 60-65 mph is the speed they start to shake at.
How's the balance of the tires? I'd check there first. You can also check the tie-rods yourself. Jack one front tire off the ground. Grab the tire towards the front and rear of the car (your left and right) and shake it left and right. There should be no movement. Any movement is a tie rod issue.
Do the same on the other side. If it's solid, then you could be looking at tires being out of balance or another issue.
Here's a vid on it.

I just put new outer tie rod ends on my '09 GT (82k miles) while replacing the lower control arms. I purchased Moog ends from Rock Auto as I wanted ends that had a grease zerk on them. Do yourself a favor and purchase / rent a tie rod end removal tool from Auto Zone (or other parts store). It makes removal a piece of cake - mine were in there pretty tight, and I just got tired of trying other methods to get them out.
