Clutch Life

Clutch Life
I have a '10 GT w/3.73 gears and 85,000 miles. I bought the car new and it's running great. I was wondering how long the average clutch lasts. I know driving habits have a lot to do with it, but I do not beat my Mustang, at least not regularly. I have been driving a stick for 47 years so the clutch has been treated well.
I would assume anyone with a S197 up to model year '10 would have the same drive train.
Thank you for your responses.

At 85k you are about there.
I once heard 70k or so was the normal life span for stock clutch, but I think driving conditions(stop/go/highway) and style has a lot to do with it.
Depending on driving I've seen > 130k, but that is rare I think.
I'm betting that in the next 10-15k you'll need a new one.
< 2004 had smaller clutch, 2005-2010 had same clutch size, and either 11 or 12 they got a little bigger.

My s197 got 110k on the stock clutch. Clutch was still good but slave cylinder went out so I replaced it all at the same time. I have done a lot of highway driving though, but I did work in Portland and had stop and go traffic for a year. Never felt like it was slipping though.

The stock clutch will obviously last a lot longer if you do mostly highway driving 'cause you won't be changing gears so often. In stop/go city driving you'll wear the clutch out a good deal earlier. Anything over 100k miles on the original clutch is great; 70-100k miles would be considered normal. At 85k miles I suspect you'd need to replace the clutch within the next 12 months.
Mine's at 70k miles and still working fine apart from a heavy pedal but I'm soon going to upgrade it anyway to a McLeod RXT and have a Barton shifter installed at the same time while the tranny's dropped.

From my experience, the average life of the stock clutch is anywhere between 80-100 thousand miles depending on modifications and driving habits.
Have you noticed anything irregular with your clutch?
Let me know if I can point you in the right direction when it comes to replacing/upgrading your clutch or if you had any other questions what-so-ever.

Just depends on driving style and if it's mostly city it highway miles. I replaced mine last year just cause I wanted a stringer one and future mods. However it had 80k on it and absolutely nothing wrong with it at all
