Default hood rust anyone having them 2012 gt

hi all

I saw a tread with a person having rust on their 2012 gt. Is this very common? Is there any way to prevent this from happening. Maybe oil spray or drying under the hood after washing? Any sujestions???

The corrosion is from the aluminum hood not being handled/stored properly at Ford. There is no preventative measure you can take to avoid it. It your hood was not handled/stored properly, it will show the corrosion.

Damn. What if you were to wax and/or polish it often, or use a paint sealer protectant? Or a clear bra strip of plastic? Seems like bull**** for this to be an issue on a car thats only about 3 or 4 years old...actually I thought Ford had a paint warranty for five years?

I have a 2014 with 3800 miles and after detailing this weekend I checked under the hood and sure enough I have the beginning signs of the hood corrosion. Three small tiny spots which I am sure will get worse over time. Very frustrating. Guy around the block from me has an 05 and the paint is peeling off the front of his hood like crazy. You would think in 9 years ford would have figured this out. I knew when I bought this car I would have to correct a few things. Suspension, trans, etc... Last thing I thought I would have to worry about is the paint on the hood.

Nothing you put on it is going to make a difference, it is happening underneath the paint. The steel and aluminum act like a battery causing the corrosion.
My dealer told me that the only solution is to replace the hood, and that is what they did with my 14. They told me that on a repaint it would come back eventually.

My 14 looked like this:

My thoughts exactly. They haven't been able to get the few body panels they make in aluminum correct, how are they going to do an entire truck in aluminum. Time will tell, I suppose.

the only thing I can think of is they probably get the Mustang hood assembly from an incompetent supplier. the F-150 body is assembled at Dearborn Truck Plant, and they made a lot of noise about sanitizing the body shop there from top to bottom.
