You need a tune to turn off the rear O2 - yes it will throw a code because the system is looking for that data.

I know shops clear codes all the time and tell customers the problem is fixed.. Could he take it to a shop and just ask them to clear the code rather than buy a tuner himself? I'm not sure if the code would just pop back up or not, but it may be one way to clear the code without spending the money on a tuner.

The code will keep coming back. The computer keeps looking for the data and clearing the code won't stop the computer from looking for it again.

I figured that was so. There may not be a way around it than to buy a tuner then.

You could try using doubled up anti-foulers on each rear O2, but that's hit and miss, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It didn't for me.

If its a daily non-track car just keep the cats, the sound isnt good without imo, and it smells bad and is bad for the environment.

put that money into your childrens college 529 plan or something, or maybe a different mod like CAI, Pully and tune again, that will be alot more useful in terms of HP and wont make the car worse.

but beside the code coming on, can i simply ignore it? or would it cause my computer to do bad things to the car, such as fuel mix ratio and air and all that stuff.

listen to andy and enjoy your now second baby as stock. the new one will keep you plenty busy and give you lots of headaches, (all good of course). no need to deal with your GT500 throwing codes and giving you headaches when it is pretty badass as it is. just my .02, congrats on the family addition.
