Default AC running at half power

While driving the car today, it seemed to be getting warmer inside the cabin. I turned the ac up. Then again. I realized that it was basically running at half power. Not nearly as cold as it normally is. If I turn the max ac off, it blows even less. I read a few threads on the compressor going out. Is that really possible with only 13.k on the odometer? Freaking ridiculous. Mine is a 2012 5.0 manual. Thanks in advance.

what was the air temp today? the humidity? were you moving? there are many variables, the output temp needs to be measured and the system pressures need to be looked at to see if the system is working correctly. i can tell you however that a compressor either works or it doesnt, there is no "half power". if you think something is wrong, take it in and have them check it out. unless you have a set of manifold gauges, you are just guessing.

Do you mean the temperature is not as low as before? Or is the fan speed not running on high?

Well it was mid day, around 87°. I don't think the compressor was on at all. It did the same thing to me today, about 2/3rs home from an hour and a half drive or so and it stopped. Definitely felt like compressor was off, and it was jut blowing air through it, which since I was doing about 70mph, was slightly cool. I'll have to go drive the car and then when it stops again, throw a multimeter on the compressor and see if it's getting power. That'll tell me right away what the problem is. If it's got power, then check gauges and see what the pressures are at. If they are low then that is most likely the problem. Weird, because the AC was working this morning when I left, and then it stopped. Maybe it is the pressure. Sounds more like it as I think about it. I'd be super bummed if I bought a brand new car, treated it like a cream puff garage queen for 4 years, only put 13.5k miles on it, and the damn AC compressor went out. Seems kind of unacceptable to me, especially since the damn thing is out of warranty. That sucks. Sucks still that it's lost pressure. AC systems don't typically just lose pressure unless there is a leak. So that should be fun.

if the compressor was off, the system is low on refrigerant, or there is an electrical issue.

I'm betting on the refrigerant. Which means there is most likely a leak somewhere. :-( have to get into it tomorrow I guess.

A/C doesn't really run at "half" or partial power, the compressor cycles on and off. when it's on it's working at 100%. I'll bet there's a leak somewhere. my 2011 Ranger had the condenser replaced under warranty due to a pinhole leak on the side.
