Default What material are our oil pans made of??

Hoping someone can guide me in the right direction here. I recently picked up a GOLDPLUG which uses a disposable crush washer (as opposed to the permanently set o-ring on the stock plug). I wanted to make sure I use a washer made out of material that will not negatively interact with the metal the pan is made of.

My understanding is using the wrong kind of metal can cause corrosion on the pan itself, which is what I'm trying to avoid.

Thanks!

It's cast aluminum. You're fine with any material although, because of the rough surface, you generally want either a crush washer (plastic type), a rubber o-ring, or a rubber coated metal washer...that's all to just make a good seal, not to do anything with corrosion.

Great! thanks for the advice, the gold plug came with an aluminum crush washer (the kind that has two different halves when looking at it from the side), and it's the exact same size as the washers used for my triumph motorcycle. So I've always got a local & reliable source. No rubber on it though, should I be ok?

You'll be find just be aware the all metal crush washers are generally only good for a couple of uses before they should be replaced.
