Default Oil life indicator stuck at 100%

I tried searching and find it hard to believe I'm the only one with this problem.

My "Oil Life Remaining" indicator is stuck at 100%. I tried resetting it and it is still 100% after driving thousands of miles. I do not know where to begin troubleshooting this. Thanks for any suggestions.

There is a schedule in your owner's manual that you can use in the meantime. I'd probably use this over the monitor anyway. This one came out of the 2012's manual.

When to expect the OIL CHANGE REQUIREDmessage
Vehicle use, miles, and examples

Normal - 7500-10000 miles
– Normal commuting with highwaydriving
– No, or moderate, load/towing
– Flat to moderately hilly roads
– No extended idling

Severe - 5000-7499 miles
– Moderate to heavy load/towing
– Mountainous or off-road conditions
– Extended idling
– Extended hot or cold operation

Extreme - 3000-4999 miles
– Maximum load/towing
– Extreme hot or cold operation
I'd guess that occasional drag racing and autocrossing would fall under 'Extreme'.

But for a car that sees a lot of drag racing or any HPDE road course driving even the Extreme schedule isn't going to be adequate.

Went to Ford yesterday to get my airbag recall done and had them look at the oil minder. They did a firmware update on the instrument cluster and it seems to have fixed the problem. $78 charge to fix a ford software bug.

Did you bend over and say "Thank you sir, may I have another"?

If they had to update anything, I would expect there to be at least a TSB out on the problem.

I have 63,300 miles on my 2012 3.7 and this problem has just started. Is there any solution other that having the dealer do a software update.

A different thought on "Severe Usage" - When I moved to NC from the "Silicon Valley" of CA my GMC's automatic trans complained for the first time with about 100k miles on the odometer.

They said all that heavy traffic, stop and go, slow driving was "Severe Usage." They changed the ATF and all was well again.

Downside was they used cheap ATF. I went back to my usual ignore the trans, it works, mode. One day discovered the ATF was WAY, WAY LOW. Then began a period of adding Mobil 1 ATF in significant quantities. After awhile the ATF stopped disappearing. I sold it at 238k having mostly ignored the trans for a ling time. FWIW on "Severe"

You might try a hard reset. Disconnect the battery for about 15 minutes, then reconnect.

I think I will try this as soon as I get a warm day.
