I'm not even sure if there are even any cars built anymore with a "warm air intake" that collects air from the engine bay. I think they've ALL moved on to having a stock CAI setup.

But on the aftermarket side of things, there are some "CAI" kits that leave the cone filter hanging in the engine bay. Downgrades like that make me laugh every time.

I just want to know where a lot of these companies that sell them and try to back them up with videos get their dyno numbers from. I mean, are they making them up or are they not doing it right or what?

People should view the video for what it is, application specific.
The engineer stated that the CAI was the best there is, then why isn't it being used on the 15, 16, or 17 Shelby GT350 ?
For that matter, why wasn't it used on the 2013 GT500 ?
A CAI that doesn't require a tune is a cosmetic mod only.
A CAI that increases the MAF, ( 105mm to 123mm ), for instance, will provide a performance increase.
....................( tune required )
But to fully realize it's potential, the exhaust also has to be modified.

I'm not sure I follow. Are you talking about the stock airbox he mentioned? Don't those vehicles come with their own stock airboxes and not an aftermarket CAI?

Was that on your 95? I like the wheels by the way.

No it was on the 2015. It dyno'd 380 stock 387 with a CAI and 404 with a 93 octane tune. My 95 has an 850 holley carb and a 300 shot. Going to a forged 363. Both are fun cars. One's a little quicker than the other.

I hate to shoot down that theory, but I have run 2 runs back to back on a dynos and have had up to 10 hp difference between them just minutes apart, unless the gain is significant you can chalk up single digit gains to an variances in the dyno

I'm certainly not an expert. I ran an intake that came with a "chip" that was suppose to tell the car there was something better up front. I was happy, till it broke, "chip" died. Manufacture sent me a couple of "chips" that were supposed to work. Their presentation and parts did not give me good vibes.

Fortunately I had talked to a fellow a couple months before in a parking lot, he had asked me if I wanted to buy his used CAI and Tuner for $200 but cash flow for me, not so good, and I was happy with the unit I had. I had kept his contact information, and he still had the unit. Happy Days!

Now what I know from this experience is that I am extremely pleased with the performance of my '05 GT. I'm a "happy camper"

Now my two cents to this discussion. Fellow had his unit installed in an '06 and said it ran like a scalded dog. But, he bought Camaro to replace it. He gave me an "insert" that the CAI manufacture gave with CAI. He did not use the insert in his car, a cylinder/tube that narrowed down the passage a bit. However, when I installed in my car, without insert, the "feel" was not quite right, and damned if it didn't throw codes after a few miles. So, I put in the insert, (did this thing a least twice) and car ran great! No codes, great feel, whenever I put my foot in it, the back end buckles down, the front end lifts and we be gone! No matter the gear, or the MPH.

Been a couple of years now, pleased as punch, it'd be nice to afford a new car, but, my '05 GT really sings for me. I do believe the "CAI Thing" is not rip off, not in my case anyway. And that "insert" in and "insert" thing out tells me there is something to CAI vs. just getting a tune. FWIW
