Default License Plate Light

08 Mustang GT

When I bought the car, the previous owner had installed these weird little bolt style license plate lights that go in place of the license plate bolts, but they didn't do a very good job.

One night, I got pulled over for having no license plate light, so I took a look when I got home. Whoever installed them did a hack job (poor wiring, wires weren't grounded correctly, etc). I've made the decision to go back to the stock light, so I ordered this one.

Of course, the OEM light was cut out by the previous owner and there are two bare wires just hanging down. Both have power to them. The stock light has a white and a black wire (one for power and one for a ground, I'm assuming), so I'm a bit confused as to how to wire up this stock light if both wires on the car have power. I'm a complete novice when it comes to electrical issues and I'd rather get this done myself instead of taking it to a shop. Does anyone have any insight? I'd greatly appreciate it.

Send member 157db a message. He is a pro when it comes to car electrical stuff. Good Luck.
