2005 Mustang Automatic Transmission not going into gear

So I have a 2005 (V6, automatic) Mustang and I would turn the car on and everything is great and okay with no lights signaling a need for repair on dashboard. However, when I would put it in drive and press the gas the only thing that happens is that the engine would rev and the car would stay in place. But when the car is put in Reverse, the car would inch forward little by very little the harder you press the gas. It’s like the tires have a restriction to it.
Can Someone PLEASE help me figure out what is wrong.

How many miles on the car? Sounds almost like a transmission issue.

It has 116k miles.

Sounds like a low transmission fluid problem.

Check the fluid, if it's black you have two options. Change the filter and hope, or take it to a transmission shop and get it rebuilt/swapped. Does the temperature have any effect?

Temperature meaning ? My car is not over-heating or anything it’s just not moving when put in Drive or Reverse. The engine revs but that’s about it.

Meaning outside temperature. Did this problem first occur during a cold snap?

I believe so. If it did (or not) what do you think it may be ?

Might try a transmission flush and filter change. If that's the case of course. That would be the cheapest fix, but if it doesn't work you're out the cost.

Check the fluid level first of course, have you noticed any reddish puddle under the car?

I haven’t seen or really noticed my car. But my friend did bring to my attention that I didn’t warm my car up that morning. It’s really cold out and I just turned it on and sped away in a rush to school. Could this have anything to do with it ?
