Convertible?

Well, I did it. The car had a clunk in the pass front, ball joints I'm sure of. It needs brakes, and had the UGLIEST yellow COP's on top of the motor. It was a little hard to steer, I'm guessing either a complete ball joint/steering joint replacement, or maybe even a power steering pump overhaul/replacement. Other than that, she looked good, ran like a dream, shifted great, and WOW - the diff b/t my 4.0 and that unmodded 300hp GT motor is HUGE. My gf wanted to test drive it and she scared the holy cowbells out of me and the guy selling it, LOL.
Anyway, I lowballed him, and he said no. We left and he called me on Sunday accepting my offer. I'm hitting the bank today and will very soon be the owner of a 2006 automatic GT convertible!

The most common issue with these are the water leaks into the rear interior from
clogged drains. THIS, on top of the same issue with all the S197 cars for the cowl
drains clogging; water comes in through the cabin air filter housing, and shorts
out the SBJ. I have barriered my SBJ with Dynamat...
Lots of people do not take care of the TOP itself; proper cleaning and conditioning so it lasts.
Lots of people do not take care of the mechanism. keeping it clean and lubricated.
I would not mind a convertible, or even the glass top, but I paid $5800 for my '08
V6, down from $8900, it just wasn't selling, so I watched the price drop three times.
It hit $5900, I asked if I could beat them up on the price, they took another $100 off.
THEN, it cost them $1000+ in parts and labor to fix issues that sprang up driving
home... Trade in on it was $4800, so they didn't make much, if anything.
It's not that it's a lot of work, just a little more preventative maintenance.

I'm on my 3rd All Black Mustang Convertible GT (97, 07 and 16). Have never regretted having the convertible and I drop it every chance I get. I've had the top down in 26 degrees and down in 110 degrees. Both have their issues. The '97 & '07 had the vinyl top. The '97 wore through at the joints due to excessive use. Was told that vinyl has memory. Don't leave the top down over night and don't use it in cold weather. So I changed and made my own rule that the top stayed up until it hit 50 outside. Keep it cleaned but I never got good advice on what product to use. On my 2016 Blackout GT, I finally got to move to cloth top and now I can leave it down however long I want and the temperature doesn't affect it. I wash it but don't dry it as it picks up ALL the lint. In between I use a large tape roller like you use for dog hair. Pulls out all the specks, hair and dried bird crap.
As it happens I also have a pool and after driving home in 100 + heat with the top down, cooling seats but no A/C, I still can't wait to jump in the pool and relax with my favorite bourbon.
So enjoy the convertible, turn the radio up while driving and look into Griot's Speed Shine. You won't regret it.

I picked her up last night, I'll post some pics when I get home tonight. She has a terrible clunk (ball joint) and she threw a CEL on the way home. Still ran great, that GT motor truly is a step up from the v6. I still love my v6, but man, I'm loving it.
Hey, does anyone know how to decode the tranny and rear end codes? I can't find it here and I am only finding VIN decoders on the 'net so far.
I believe my TR code (transmission) is L, and my AXLE is a CG. Anybody know what these are or where a good decoder is for anything other than the basic VIN?
