Considering 09 v6 vert 70k

ISpotted it in the neighborhood with no plates... Price is right. Has water intrusion and brake light stuck on which I guess is commonplace on these... Dark blue with black top and interior. Automatic car.. Water under the seats, very moldy trunk.. Puddle under the spare.. Why do they take on so much water and what's the resolution... Overall nice car. Can get it for $3500 probably

The cowl gets blocked with leaves and it backs up into the car. The smart junction box in the passenger footwell is likely corroded - that would account for the taillight issue. You MIGHT be able to clean it up and get the connections working, but probably have to consider getting a replacement/rebuild.

As far as the trunk water intrusion, on a convertible that is likely the drain from the top well.

The other thing to look for on the 4.0 V6 is the leaking thermostat housing. It is plastic and the seam splits. It is often misdiagnosed as a bad water pump. So you want to look for a leak there, usually blowing coolant under the intake manifold. It isn't a matter of if it will fail, only when. Some had multiple failures in a short time.

Thanks, will investigate further when I get it home...

Engine compartment is fine, water is in interior of the car.

Was attempting to drive it earlier today and couldn't get it out of park. Guess the neutral safety switch has something to do with the brake light switch also..

On yeah, tried to open the little manual override access door on the shifter console but couldnt get it flipped open.

One more thing, directionals are intermittent. Right blinks a couple of times then not, left might blink once then not...

It doesn't leak into the engine compartment, it leaks from the cowl back into the interior because the cowl drains are plugged. There are lots of threads discussing it in the S197 section. If you don't clear those drains it will continue to back up into the car and will destroy the SJB eventually causing all kinds of electrical issues.

Here's one thread on the issue:

https://mustangforums.com/forum/2005...-mustangs.html

Search "cowl drain" and you will find many threads discussing the problems (just like you are experiencing with this Mustang) and the steps to cleaning the drains and what to do to "fix" your SJB if it isn't too corroded.
