Removing antenna for car cover storage

RE: Removing antenna for car cover storage
Just get a wrench and turn counterclockwise! It unscrews pretty easily.
Put on the car cover. You lay it out over the center of the carthen slip down the passenger side mirror pocket over the mirror. Then go around to the driver's side and slide the pocket over that side's mirror. Slip the front over the hood, down along a front corner and under the airdam. Then do the other front corner and the rear in the same way as the front. The good covers can handle hot exhaust pipes so make sure they're covered, as should be most of the wheels. If you have spinners (knockoffs) they will hide them well. Now that it's on, go to where the antenna goes and with a pen mark where the antenna should be. Then you can poke a hole through the fabric, after you've lifted up the car cover. Put the antenna back on, take the cover off most of the front and then put it back on starting with the antenna. Each time you put your cover on you'll want to start with the antenna. There's good flex in it so you don't need to take it off every time. Some covers come with a kit so you can iron a patch over the hole you made for the antenna.

RE: Removing antenna for car cover storage
As the people before me said, just unscrew it. I remove mine when I put my cover on it. After I take the cover off, I just screw it back in, no more that hand tight seems to be all that is needed. The initial time that you do use a wrench or pliers (hopefully not) put a rag or some type or rubberized padding over the contact points so you do not scratch anything by accident. After that, all you should need to use is your hands.

RE: Removing antenna for car cover storage
Firstly, I'm not a dude. [sm=icon_beat.gif] As a woman, I find it's always best to ask for directions when unsure of something....
Secondly, I tried to unscrew it and it didn't budge. I just wanted to be sure I wouldn't damage or break it.
As for everyone else who replied with images and detailed directions, WOW! I appreciate your help very much!
Thanks!

RE: Removing antenna for car cover storage
Sorry - dudette - I would have posted a pic of my antenna grommet, but I don't have one and my baby is currently tucked away for the winter.
As for you antenna not unscrewing - it very well should. It could have been installed with a little too much torque at the factory, or maybe stuck from the paint still being damp. Either way, just use the correct size wrench to unscrew it - and use a bit more elbow grease and it should break free. I doubt you can damage anything then maybe a little paint on the base on the antenna itself. If you do - just do a little spray-dab from a can of semi-gloss black and it should touch up fine. Of course - do this AWAY from your baby, and while your at it, DON'T drop that wrench on the hood [8D]

Sorry for the late reply but I wanted to let you know I was able to get the antenna off... finally. I tried with a protective cloth but it didn't allow for a tight enough grip. I was able to get it unscrewed with the right sized wrench and only caused a few marks to the antenna. Like you said, I can easily touch it up in the spring with some black paint.
I appreciate your help. Have a nice holiday and don't go crazy waiting to take the baby out again!

Word of caution...don't pull your cover too far down over the tailpipe(s). I did with my '04 V6 and the sharp edge of the tailpipe put a hole in the cover. Tuck the cover under the rear bumper, leaving the tailpipe(s) exposed if possible. Either that or put socks over the tailpipe(s) to eliminate any rough edges.
