TECH: replacing the stock throttle body
#53
I gained 11rwhp with a TB swap. I've since gone back to the stock one because I'd rather walk a 400-mile road trip than drive a Mustang with an aftermarket throttle body. They are all crap when it comes to drivability, regardless of how much you try and tune them out.

for you guys who are contemplating a larger TB a cheaper route may be to pick up a unit from a 6.8 V10 (60mm i believe) and a cheap billet spacer off ebay. I think I was in mine a total of around 100-125 bucks.
To get it to fit I had to do a little dremel tool work on the spacer and on the bolt holes in the new TB, and use a "fernco" piece of rubber to adapt the larger inlet mounting flange to my CAI but in the end it worked perfectly and did not require a retune. I *think* the idle is slightly higher, maybe 50-100 rpm over stock which hasn't been a problem at all with my automatic and honestly now that it's been on for awhile I haven't really noticed it.
Did I pick up an increase? Who knows, I installed my CAI and tune at the same time - but I doubt it hurt me and it's just 1 more mod done to the car
btw this is for a GT not the sixxers obviously
