any input is appreciated. would a slim jim tool work?
First a question Coupe or Convertible? If a couple then you say you can open the trunk, There should be some way to release the back seat back thus gaining access. Convertible, a bit more difficult. I saw a site on line about opening the hood when the cable breaks. Hunt that down jump the battery unlock the car. Get a matching key made.

On the battery issue - I cannot comment on those who have no Problem. What I can say is that on Many Ford Products there are so many things running in the background on these cars that dead batteries are quite common after a few days. I had a 2000 Expedition which would also do this in cold weather when sitting for a week or more. Noticed the issue right away on my 2007 427R Roush Mustang. Because it is not a daily driver I have to keep the battery charged. A good charge one a week and no issues.

I do not have an answer for why some have the issue and some do not. I researched this issue extensively after 2007 and found that virtually all that had the issue, could not find anything wrong with the car. I also am aware that many Ford cars and trucks that sit on the lot for any length of time before being sold, have the batteries replaced from going dead. My 2011 Expedition was one of those but I have had no issues since bringing it home.

In most cases there is no fix. Just keep a good battery and keep it charged when not driving.
