Default Hurst shifter - is it tight at first?

I just installed my Hurst shifter and I was a little suprised how tight it is shifting. I know a lot of new shifters are tight at first, but it is a little tighter than I was expecting from Hurst. Really have to force it into 2nd and 3rd. Has anyone else had this issue with theirs? and how did it fair after some time?

Yeah, I thought the same. I kept my original just incase I didn't like the new feel. The "clankyness" gets better over time. I've got about 400-500 miles on mine and it seems to feel much better. I don't think the shifter itself has to brak in, I mean, it's just a sphereical joint, what's to break in? I think it's the transmission breaking more than anything and you just feel everything more since the throw is so short. Doesn't it feel shorter then the advertised 40% throw reduction? I've gotten better with it and can get it to shift while accelerating without the passengers heads whipping around. Plus, it says HURST on the side!

Chevykiller, I've had mine for several months now and it hasn't loosend up much, but once you get used to it you'll love it. I wouldn't trade mine for anything else and you should never miss 3rd with this set-up.[8D]

Thanks guys - I feel much better. I literally JUST put it in. Probably 10 miles on it. And although it is tight, mauiboy, I agree, it goes right into third on the money. The throw definitely seems shorter than 40% ...LOL Seems like you only have to move it an inch to shift. I'm sure I'm going to love it and just have to get used to it.

Mine definitely feels like it has loosened up - I have a few thousand miles on it.
