I want H-pipe info

I want H-pipe info
I was looking at my stock exhaust on the 05GT. Pipes look big for factory. No more 1 7/8" single pipe from past crap. There is a pipe welded between the left and right pipe just after the cats. Some of you are installing after market H-pipes. Is the factory pipe just support or a real H-pipe that flows through and you guys are up grading? Are you eliminating the cats as well?

RE: I want H-pipe info
it is a real h-pipe but not compatible with most long tube headers on the market plus it has cats...atleast that is why i bought the aftermarket offroad h-pipe, to fit better to the headers and eliminate the cats

RE: I want H-pipe info
I have the Pypes off road h pipe. It sounds much better/louder with out the cats. I think the engine is efficent enough to pass NC inspection, not sure about CO. The stock exhaust is good, but it is still stock and can be improved upon.

In Illinois they dont do the visual check for convertors. They use to walk around the car with a mirror. Only time the do this is if you fail, and are returning for a retest.
Also new cars dont get tested until thier 4 years old here. Buy a new one every 4 years!
Maybe 02 simulators to make the cars computer think everything is A O.K. and you dont get the check engine light, which is an automatic failure.
Also cars with OBII only do the onboard diagnostics, not tested on a dyno so they wont know whats coming out of your tailpipe.
Now Im sure these differ from state to state. And things here may have even changed. I use to run a few cars a month thru the emissions place. The guys there knew me pretty well.
It is a crime to run without them, so beware.
Check states web sites for info.
Looking at Illinois I found something that was rather funny.
The Federal Clean Air Act of 1990 defines tampering as the removal, bypass, disconnection, damage or in any way rendering ineffective any emission control device or element of design that has been installed on a vehicle or engine.
The most commonly tampered emission control device is the catalytic converter
Tampering is against the law and does not improve gas mileage, performance or driveability; it often has the opposite effects of shortened engine life, performance problems and a loss of fuel efficiency

RE: I want H-pipe info
they will pass the inspection b/c i have the SCT2 programmer and turned off the O2 sensors. when they hook up the smog test machine, it will read N/A as the result for each test but the overall result will be PASS. you are right though, if the inspection guy gets up under your car and sees that you have no cats, he most likely will not pass you. our advantage is that most inspection guys are too stupid to know about that or just dont care.

RE: I want H-pipe info
I know that when you get the offroad h-pipe you either need MIL eliminators or a tune to turn off the check engine light.
Can you just do this by turning off the o2 sensors or is that needed for the car?>
sorry such a noobish question... just wondering b/c I don't want to take the time to send my x-cal back to brent just to get the check engine light turned off.
