Thanks man, only because it's a 60's retro design of the stang does it work IMO. Could have gone with some pretty wild ghost flames but since that was not done 'back in the day' I stayed away from that. These are classic hot rod flames but with today's improved painting techniques for an incredible finish than was not possible in the 60's.

Better photograhpy on the way...

You'll probably want to paint the hood if you want a nice effect. Dupont was making a color called Hot Rod Black in their Hot Hues line a couple of years back. It reproduced the Chrysler and Ford blackout paint of the 60's and 70's just about perfectly. The body shop used it to paint the hood and rear panel of my 71 Maverick Grabber during restoration. Here are the wide stripes you are looking at on my car ...

Here is the Dupont Hot Rod Black on my Grabber ... it is single stage but it two part and requires a hardner ....

The photos are nice but I would really have to see the double wide hood stripe in person before being able to make up my mind!
I like the idea of the low gloss stripes which would add to the retro look of the car. It might need to be done on the rear panel too. And the wing... and maybe side stripes!

ORIGINAL: 05BlueGT

Looking at those pictures, I have the double wide stripes on mine with the side C-stripes. The vinyle stripes being that wide wide is a real pain in the a$$ to put on. Since the hood has a curve shape to it and the decals are flat, it tries to create air pockets and creases under the decal and the adhesive is very tacky. I don't think going for a one piece decal is going to look to do the job IMO. Paint is the best option as described above if that's the look you are going for.

Here is what the double wide stripes on mine looks like.

05bluegt your hood looks awesome, but if you fill in the blue in the hood scoop slots it would look 10x meaner and better!

On the car without the line down the middle of the hood is that paint or a decal. It looks good. I was thinking of having my hood painted like that. I stopped by a body shop yesterday and he thought it would be around $350 to paint the hood like that and then clear coat the entire hood. Does that sound reasonable?

The photo that has 2 stripes was before the car was hail damaged. The hood had so many dings from the hail, it was replaced. The hood was painted with the black in the middle and the outer stripe. It was all taped off free hand. The body shop guy that did all the work on the car is my wifes cousin and I get the family discount. I am not sure how much he charged for that part of the car since it was all included in the insurance of the over all hail damage repair. He also went and taped off the hood scoop and painted it black as well so there are no decals on the car itself except for the side reflective C-stripes. The spoiler was painted black along with between the tail lights was painted black.
