Drag tires for stock rims?

Drag tires for stock rims?
Hi everyone,
I'm planning to try a couple of runs at the strip this summer :
2005 GT Auto
steeda springs
10psi vortech
I have stock 17inch mags with stock tires right now.
I'd like to put drag tires in the back (wider if possible?)
I don't want to put money on rims just yet. Not done with the mods....
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Patrick

m/t e.t. streets 26x11.50x 17 would fit great. stock rims are 9" i think and tires measure 9" wide and 26.5 tall.

I'm an idiot when it comes to many things...(tires are one of them)....
Got a specific brand and numbers?
thanks!

I always thought stock rimes are 8 inches wide.

For the sake of making really idiot proof, I've got Pirellis PZero 235/55R-17 99W
Will the 275/40/17 work on the same rim?

RE: Drag tires for stock rims?
M & H and Mickey Thompson are the only two 17"drag radials I have found that call for less than a 10" wide wheel. They recommend a 9" wheel with their 275/50/17 and 275/40/17, respectively, which is only 1" wider than the factory wheel. http://www.intercotire.com/site50.php & http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/strip.html I would not go more than 1" more than recommended.
