Default tires on stock rims

could I get away with having larger tires on stock rims? 17' GT rims.

could I go with 255 ? can I go larger?

I don't want it to look funky though.

also, with the wider tire would I notice a difference in launching and 1/4 times at all?

sorry, I am a tire/wheel n00b

Default RE: tires on stock rims

I wouldn't do it. The sidewalls are going to be at the wrong angle, forcing the outer edge of the tire to curve away from the road surface a bit, and even if a full contact patch is there, the tire will be forced into position creating an uneven weight distribution across the tread pattern. stay as close to the MAX recommended size wheel as you can for any tire/wheel setup.
