Default SCT or Diablo Sport or FRPP

Here's the low down, I have a 2006 Mustang GT with a five speed. I just ordered SLP loudmouths and a new 4.10 gear set. I plan on adding a cold air kit (just not sure which one yet) and a set of the FRPP shorty headers. I know with all these chnages I'll need a new tune, so my question is which one is best?

For those of you who have truly tricked out the performance of your vehicle (and you know who you are), please explain the pluses and minuses of each. Thanks.

I see just plus for you. The SCT or Diablo will work fine for the tune, it's the tuner that needs to be good and knows what he doing. I live in San Diego and I traveled 120 miles to get my car tuned by ST Motorsports (Adam). I had my car retuned with the diablo, my mods are Saleen S/C, Auto, JBA shorty headers, CAI (Steeda), 90mm MAF, #39 injectors. Putting out 354hp/350tq, again thats with an automatic trans. The SCT was okay, but I like the Diablo better. So if your in the market for a tuner, I have my Xcal II for sale ($250). SOLD
Good luck with your mods. Oh, when you do install the CAI you WILL have to get the car retuned or you can damage your motor.

My personal experiences with Diablo are outstanding. I had a Custom tune done by one of their Chipmaster revolution dealers. I agree with MSgt46270 completely. The tuner has to know his stuff. I am N/A, no S/C or nitrous and making good strong numbers.

How much boost are u running? Are you using the stock pulley? Your hp numbers seem kinda low for those mods. I will be going with a similar setup plus a tune from JDM. I was told I could make around 400rwhp on this setup. ????

that does seem a little low. i am putting down 315HP/333TQ and that is N/A. i was told that if i put the saleen blower on my car at 5 psi, i would be getting around 450-475HP

Just remember you need the tune to install the 4:10 gears or else your speed odm. will really be off.

Both tuners pretty much offer the same capabilities now a days so it really comes down to what your tuner is more comfortable and knowledgeable with. Both companies have recently updated the software and have pretty much ironed out all the kinks from the earlier tunes. Just ask whoever is going to tune your car which tuner he is personally making better numbers with and go with that one. I will say I am pro Diablo and most of the fastests new stangs in the country are using or have switched to diablo tunes. Justin Burcham switched to diablo when he made the record 9.60's pass. The Paxton car made their fastest pass after switching to a diablo tune. The vortech car uses a diablo tune, etc. etc. As a matter of fact, I think the Saleen company is the only company still coming with and using the SCT and maybe it's no coincidence that you have never seen any impressive numbers coming from the saleen camp.

And as far as saleen goes, YOU WILL NOT GET 400-450 RWHP with the kit without $$$ upgrades. I personally think the Saleen s/c is one of the worst s/c for the money out there and only outperforms the roush. I know the kit has potential but I'm speaking about out-of-the-box kits. The KB is cheaper and makes more power right out of the box so I don't see what makes saleen a good buy. (although it does LOOK nice)

I have the stock pulley on the S/C. I keep hear what I should be making from 370 to over 400. I have read that the S/C adds 120hp with the stock pulley, lost of through the auto trans it's about right. I had JDM's tune and was getting 328hp, then had ST Motorsports retune with the Diablo and he got it up to 354hp. I was told I should be making more HP and I keep hearing it. I have what I have and I'm pretty sure I have a good tune. I trust Adam, but like he told me he tunes a car to run safe, not chase HP numbers.

You might be around 420hp max, but then we'll see when you get it installed. I can't wait for you to get it install and see what you really will make. BTW, when are you getting the S/C installled? Are you going to keep the stock pulley on, if not then you will be over 420hp. Is your car a stick or auto?
Good luck with your numbers, I hope you do make what your looking for.

Hey Sarge - Don't fret! Not one single person is going to produce a dyno chart with a saleen on an auto making better numbers with the stock pulleys. It is very easy for people to say what you SHOULD be making without knowing what they are talking about. The fact is that 354 rwhp is DAMN GOOD for an out-of-the-box saleen kit on an auto. Like I said, no one is going to be able to produce significantly better numbers on the same set-up. Dyno your car again now that you have the torque converter and gears and I'll bet your just over 380 now.
