So you might see me posting around here a bit, used to post on Car and Driver forums, but looks like a lot more knowledge is floating around here. Just picked up a 06 GT Premium, Manual, with Interior Upgrade, and Shaker 1000 for $27270 before taxes. My previous car was a 1999 V6 Stang Auto, so it's gonna be a fun jump.

And a few questions for you all


Plan on throwing on the Steeda Pully Kit, and a air intake system with chip or reprogrammer, so any recommendations would be much appreciated. Also looking at rims, want to go 20" route and have read about 4 threads in these forums about wheels. One thing I am concerned with a lot is looks, and obviously chrome looks awesome but is incredibly heavy. I believe I read stock rims weigh 53lbs each. So I don't want to gain too much weight there, especially that unsprung weight. So any references to 20" chrome rims, that aren't going to add weight, or a polished aluminum rim would be very much appreciated as well. TIS(Twenty Inch Stron) makes some decent looking rims, and they are are chrome plated, curious if anyone knows anything about that as well. Thanks all!

i too got the black 06 GT AND made the jump from a '98 V6. what an amazing difference. the stang has come a long way since 98 (or 1964.5 for that matter)

as for rims - ugh i dunno man. mine came with the 17" bullits and i love them. i might love them a little more if they were 18"s but i'd never put 20s on my stang ...they just seem too big for the body, then again i've seen some lowered stangs on 20s that don't look too bad.

as for CAI and tuner - i just bought the C&L CAI with the SCT2 tuner from Evolution. C&L seems to be the more popular CAI if you're willing to put down a little extra cash for it. I also read that the SCT2 tuner is much better than the Preditor tuner - but you should do your research on that.

I wouldn't put on the 20 inch wheels either. To me I think it will slow it down.

I have seen two blacks with 20" and they look quite beautiful. Shouldn't slow the car too much down if the weight is right. Obviously there will be better wheel alternatives, but this is my everyday driver and not a racecar. And even with 20"s, it will still beat 90% of cars out there.

Look at the 20" this way, Saleen thought they were worthy for their rides so I wouldn't worry about it decreasing performance too much. If you want em go for em. Me, I'm gonna get 18" chrome deep dish Bullits.

If it slows down with 20s, just add power. Sexy appearance will do more for you in daily life than being a hair faster.

Congrats on your 06. We got ours 12/29 and love it.

I got a SCT2 and JLT2 from bamachips and that dropped my times 1/2 second with 91 octane performance tune.

As for wheels I got 18" Deep Dish Bullets from mustang tuning.
