Default Ford Wants $2,200.00 for HIDs!

I went to my local Ford dealer and asked them about switching to HIDs (headlights and fogs), since mine didn't come with them. They told me that it would be $1,100.00 per headlight, for a total of $2,200.00 for just the headlights!!!!! Of course, that's for a complete changout, not a conversion. But, seriously, that's friggin highway robbery! I opted to get in touch with Retrosolutions and get their kit for only a couple hundred bucks and that includes the fog lights. If you want HIDs, do not go to Ford. Maybe they're just hoping someone doesn't know any better and will pay that price.

I know. How is it that the same parts get put into the car cost so much more if you decide to do it after the fact. The $2,200.00 was only for the parts, not the labor. Some say "It costs more if you do it after the fact because of the amount of parts you have to switch out. That would make sense if you were talking labor charges included, but that price was just for the parts. How can they justify adding 1700 bucks for the same thing? I'm betting they won't sell many.

That's exactly what I said. I got both pairs for 300 and some change by getting them online.

if you do end up doing retro, make sure you get the bulb coating. there are no shields on the 2010.

I got the bulb coating so I should be good. I wonder what the light pattern would look like without the coating. Probably all over the place....

your forgetting at the dealer that also includes the correct headlamp assembly as well as the bulbs and ballasts, which is actually DOT approved. All aftermarket kits are not DOT compliant. You pay to be legal.

I have owned many cars with many not DOT legal HID kits, and unless you are driving a POS honda with bouncing headlights, Cops wont bother.
