I installed Sylvania Silver Stars in the headlights and fog lights and they seem to illuminate the road significantly better to me. Plug and play with no worry about overloading the existing wiring.

Do HID kits mess your warrenty up? Could they tell if you had them installed if you took the kit out before you took it in for service work?

The aftermarket mod would have to cause the failure to void the warranty for a particular part. So an HID kit would not affect the warranty on say an engine problem. But it would void the warranty for your headlight housing if the HID was of low quality and melted some of the plastic.

HTH!

If you're looking to replace the stock bulbs (which are typically around 3500K), then ANY bulb of the same style is simple to install. The instructions should be in your Owners Manual under lamp replacement. Be aware that you begin to lose effective light at around 5000K.

The Sylvania Silverstars (4000K) work well for me in the headlights as they're whiter and don't begin to approach that annoying blueish color. With 5000K HOEN bulbs, I've had to replace them with a 4000K lamp. For the fogs, I'll run nothing hotter than a 2500K lamp. I have Hella Optilux Extreme Yellow in all of my vehicles fogs. They provide great contrast at night in foul weather.

If you're looking for distance at night, the fogs won't do it; you'll need a set of driving lights. The fogs throw a short, wide beam as a function of the reflector no matter what bulb you put in.

From not only my experience, the Sylvania Silverstars have a fairly short lifespan. I've had 3 bulbs go bad in less than one year. Google it and you'll find a lot of info around their short lived bulb life. If you choose to go with an HID kit - the one sold by Retro Solutions has very good reviews across multiple car forums.

The HID kits are fairly stand alone. It's powered by the battery/fuse box and has it's own grounds. It connects to only one OEM headlight harness and that's to tell the ballasts when to power the bulbs on/off.

My previous SUV used the Silverstars as the DRL's in addition to the headlights so they were on (but at a lower output) all the time and those would usually last 16-18 months. I've had the Silverstars in my Stang now for about 2 years and over 14 months in my g/f's Malibu. IMO, the extra safety is still worth replacing them a bit more often.

Ah yea, one would think it to be that simple.
But you must also fool the SJB into thinking
the OEM filiment bulbs are still hooked up
or the headlights flash indicating a burned
out bulb (or missing because of the HID kit)....
