HID's Installed
 
I bought my HID setup several weeks ago from RetroSolutions and finally yesterday I had a chance to install them. I gotta say I was pretty impressed with the ease of installation. It took me a while only because I was being anal about where I installed the ballasts and tucked the wire looms out of sight as much as I could. At first they didn't work but I quickly found that I had a grounding problem. I drove back from dinner last night and I couldn't believe the differents in these lights. I got the 5000K bulbs and I couldn't be happier. I recommend this mod for anybody that didn't get the HID's from the factory.

I got the 5000k kit as well and love them! One thing though..... I used to get flashed constantly by oncoming drivers because my lights were so bright. I ended up pointing my headlights down further and now don't have any issues at all. I noticed that when I would drive up behind someone at night it would light up the entire inside of their cabin, or with oncoming traffic it would do the same. If that's the case then your headlights need to be adjusted down. After I adjusted them I tested it out by driving up behind someone and making sure the light didn't travel into their cabin while I was sitting directly behind them.

I have the factory HIDs and other drivers still flash me, particularly when I have the fogs on (non-HID).

It was the same way with my factory HIDs on a Jetta GLI that I owned, and they were "self leveling." I chalk it up to people being too stupid to realize lights aren't the same as they were 10 years ago.

Well, in my case, I was blinding the hell out of people :) They would duck and cover their eyes and everything. It was kinda funny, but I realized I needed to do something. People would flash me thinking my high beams were on, then I'd flash them back with my high beams and watch them swirve off the road.

When I ordered them I got the bulb capping service as well. I hope that cuts enough light out of the tip of the bulb not to blind people. I did get flashed once last night.

Maybe they were flashing simply because you were blinding them, not because they thought you have highs on.

My sprinkler often gets my windshield wet, so when I drive, sometimes it's spotty as hell. Nothing worse than catching some HID beams straight onto my windshield and have my water spots help completely blind me. Granted, that's probably my fault.

people are too stupid to not be blinded by poorly designed or poorly installed lights?

Sorry my grammar is terrible when I drink but its friday.

I didn't quite get the comment that people are too stupid to realize lights are brighter now. The tolerance of not being able to see from direct light has not changed. Either people are poorly designing vehicles or people are poorly installing them aftermarket into their vehicles. You can have brighter lights that point at the same angle and the same if not less outer focus bleed.

Gotcha.

My opinion, which likely differs from your's, is that people are seeing properly installed OEM HIDs and still flashing folks because they assume that the high beams must be on. Again, I have had such experience with my OEM HIDs on my Mustang, as well as with OEM HIDs on my Jetta. And, like I said, the Jetta's lights were "self leveling" . . . each time the vehicle was started the the headlights turned on, and you could see them rotate up and down and settle if what was theoretically a parallel position to the ground.

Before you say it -- yes I realize that they could be installed improperly, even from the factory. But the chances are much slimmer.
