Owners with factory HIDs: Are you happy with them?
#12
I am going to be ordering a 12 and this is a MUST option for me. It's modern technology, something the Mustang can sometimes be behind on, and they just look amazing. I would definately take advantage of it. I also work at night, so I will be driving in the dark most of the time.

+1 Damn right.....no way i was gonna pop another grand just for HID's since they combo'd them with the security package. I'll get them aftermarket if I still feel like I want/need them.

Compare to my previous car with them (2009 Honda S2000) the Mustangs are rather poor. To date I have only driven behind three cars so equiped, my previous Honda and a friends BMW, both of which put the Mustangs effort to shame.

don't get this car without'em. the halogen's suck. IMO, well worth the money. sure you can go get aftermarket projecters. If you're into that 4cyl, rice rocket, front wheel drive, JDM, plastic look. i have a badass american car. with badass american looks. and badass headlights. Just sayin . . . .

A mixed blessing.
HIDs were optional in 2008 on more than just the CS. Here's what I've noticed . . .
The whiter color is nice, but actual roadway illumination (low beams) is not as good as the roadway illumination from my wife's Legacy 2.5GT's halogen low beams. Not as bright, and there are a few dark patches.
You can adjust them vertically but not horizontally. There is a little improvement to be had by staggering the vertical aim just a little (driver side aimed lower than passenger side) in that the dark patches don't overlap quite as badly.
You'll still get noticeable improvement when you turn the foglights on, and you'll be better off in terms of useable light if you leave the fogs at their OE color temperature.
If you must have the headlights and the fogs "visually color matched" - never mind whether or not that is a goal worth shooting for - stick to halogens.
