HID with DRLs?
 

Just picked up a 2012 v6 stang and would like to upgrade the factory halogen bulbs with some 8000k HIDs but the thing is the car is equipped with DRLs what would need to be done in order run one of these kits(ballast don't like under-voltage)

As well anyone have pictures of the beam pattern of either 35w or 55w HID in non HID headlamps(10-12)?

From what I've heard you need to turn off the DRLs or you will have problems with the kit like you mentioned

How would a person disable the DRL on the new mustangs? Is there a module for this solely or is it built into the factory computer. A quick search seems the only way to disable it without affecting other stuff is to use a dealer tool.

Probably the easiest solution for me is to just buy a relay harness with my kit and tap into the little fog/driving lights in the bumper for the low beam HID and tap into the headlight bulb harness (12v when hi beam presnt) for the xenon part of the bulb.

Doing it this way should make it still operate in the factory fashion(except I will have no DRL) Was originally thinking the amber corning parking lights but they come on with the park lights obviously and when i lock/unlock they light up. As well tapping into those would pretty much eliminate my park light mode from the factory switch making it either all lights on or off. If I'm wrong someone please correct me.

Well I went ahead and ordered HID kits from my usual supplier. Turns out with a H13 bi-xenon you have to use a relay harness and the relay operates 6-16v so the drl's simply turn them on.

The entire kit was plug and play and overall I was extremely satisfied(as always).

Both kits are 35w digital slim ballasts 8000k bulbs and ran me 95 dollars shipped with a extra set of bulbs for both. Cant believe what the vendors charge for it...

Looks good. I was late to reply, but I was going to suggest the 35w and not the 55w kit. A friend has a 50w kit in his Monte Carlo and he is always having people flash him thinking he has the high beams on. He is getting ready to replace them with 35w units and move the 50w to his high beams.

Hi, I'm facing the same issue. I have drls and I cant disable them. So did the harness help? Did you connect your hids to the headlight connectors with the harness or to the fog lamps?
I have the auto headlights option and dont want to lose that. I dont mind losing the drls.

you should lose the HIDs instead. especially the ones in your goddamn fog lights.
