OEM hood scoops. Cool or crap?

Hey guys. Been thinking about one of the OEM stick-on hood scoops. Haven't done any appearance mods in quite a while.

But since theyre non functional is they cool or is they ghetto? :icon_bike:

Anything non-functional is ghetto IMO. I prefer the clean look.

I like mine. They do have mounting studs plus the tape.

Most non-functional hood scoops just look bad. However the one on AzPete's car does look good.

So if you get one then do one like his.

Just personal preference really..Do what you actually like yourself.

Me, I had an 06 with one...Got a deal on the car, but absolutely despised it. I could have just changed it, but I didn't actually like a few things about that one, so I eventually sold it, and ate the difference to get the one I wanted.

On the flip-side, I think I'd be taking away part of the look of my car if the side-"scoops" were gone, but they only increase the drag of the car and lower milage another .008mi/g I'm sure. Same for the rear spoiler, only like 1 after-market for our model years is actually functional as I understand it, and isn't even useful until like >70mph, but I like the 500's spoiler..

So..

You'll get as many opinions as there are people. Do what you want. IMO you'd have to work at it to trash an S197. I have the non-functional scoop and don't like it. Because of where I'm located, and some other circumstances, I didn't have a choice unless I wanted to wait for months longer. If I were back in the good-ole-USofA I would replace the hood. Again, it's personal opinion and I'll live with it.

DG sells OEM-style pre-painted scoops for $300+.

You should seriously consider replacing the entire hood with either a fiberglass or carbon fiber unit (twice the cost of an identical 'glass hood). It's more expensive than just a hood scoop, but I think you'll be a lot happier, and you'll have a LOT more scoop styles to choose from. Cervini and TruFiber are the two top names in hoods.

Consider that OEM hood scoops are no longer functional because the air intake isn't located in the traditional top/center-of-the-motor position. It's in a sealed box behind the driver's side headlight (and putting a scoop down there would look - well - stupid. If you want a functional scoop, you pretty much have to get a ram air hood, coupled with a ram air kit that converts your stock airbox to be suitable for use with the hood.

Further, the new position of the air intake is more effective than where it used to be, because more cool air actually gets to the intake than it did in the center/top of the motor. Evacuating heat from the engine compartment is actually a more desirable trait in a hood, and that's why the 2013's have heat extractors in the hood (I believe they're functional).

Not usually a big fan, but do what YOU like.

Love mine and I get tons of compliments on it.I wouldn't even consider a new hood to replace it!
