2012 Decklid emblem

My car is blacked out except for wheels and emblem.... Anyone have pix of blacked out emblem?

Can you buy it somewhere?
Do you paint it, with what and what's the best method?

Thanks

Plasti Dip

Sand4u 05-31-2012 09:15 AM

+1 for plasti dip. I did mine and was surprised at how easy it was. The most common mistake is to try and cover it in 1 pass. Take your time and do 4-5 light coats and it should come out great. There are a bunch of "how to" videos on youtube if you want tips and to see it in action.

It also works great on the 5.0 badges if you haven't done those yet :)

Yep, plasti-dip. Just make sure you take your time and maybe throw some towels/newspaper on your decklid/bumper in case you overspray. It'll come off once it dries, but it'll save you the trouble...

Here's mine:

I had the guys at Emblem Pros make a custom emblem for me. They have done several for forum members. www.emblempros.com

They also make an engine cover dress up kit.

Thanks to Alan, I Just finished mine from EmblemPro's as well....

Turned out great and is what FORD should have done from the get go instead of using the 2010 "GT" badge.

That is really cool. Might think about doing something like this now. How much did it cost and did you have to send them your stock emblem?

uin2it 05-31-2012 10:28 PM

It costs $43 shipped....and no, they did not need my stock emblem. They send you a replacement center piece and you remove your stock center and attach the new one.

This looks good, but what did you do to have the GT letters stay silver? apply tape to them very carefully? or is the GT removeable from the rest of the emblem?

MoshpitMad 06-01-2012 06:27 AM

Why did Ford have to put the "hump" underneath it!? I wanted to remove it all together and put some matte vinyl on mine.

Looks fantastic. When you did yours I'm assuming you had to remove the decklid pannel first to be able to get to the emblem...correct?

Was there anything out of the ordinary to remove the decklid pannel?

alan0614 06-01-2012 07:30 AM

I replaced the faux cap with the blackout panel. So when I put mine together it was pretty simple. I didn't have to take off the blackout panel first. I think you would need to remove the full panel if you already have one on your car. 3M tape is all you need.

Yeah, I just talked to another guy who removed his. It's pretty straight forward so I'm not worried. Just ordered the 5.0 emblem from emblempros.com. I've got tons of 3M tape so this should be a snap once it gets here.

Thanks for the heads-up!

alan0614 06-01-2012 08:39 AM

They are coming out with a coil cover dress up kit as well. They should have it posted in the next few days. One of the other Carolina guys had a Captain America shield made to replace the GT emblem. It is quite amazing what they can do.

Be sure to post some pics when you get yours done.

lol @ Captain America shield. That's too cool. I wish I would have thought of it. Especially being over here in Germany; I should've done something like that too. Gotta represent...:icon_clapclap:

I'm a pic ho...so, posting pictures when I get her done will be a must.

Awesome badges... Thanks everyone.... I plasti dipped the emblems on my wife's vehicle.... I noticed taking the emblems off first makes it 10X easier.

That looks amazing! Well done ride. We've been doing a few of those lately. I will be looking into board sponsorship in the coming weeks. Our Ford Licensing is complete, and now is the time.

I just taped over the GT (nothing intricate just a few pieces of tape) and then peeled the plasti dip off the whole center section. The small gap makes it easy to peel off the plasti dip without it tearing (just like between the emblems and the paint). So, the center insert has no plasti dip left on it, and the stock black color actually matched pretty well with the plasti dip color.

I was pleasantly surprised at how well the plasti dip worked leaving the emblems on the car. Just do some taping for overspray, and then peel off what you don't want to keep. It's actually easier if you don't tape very accurately because it gives you something to grab onto to peel off the overspray. Kinda hard to explain, because it acts nothing like a regular paint. Search plasti dip on youtube to see it in action.

uin2it,

I just recieved mine in the mail today. Which method worked best for you on removing the emblem from the car?

Fishing line seems to be the best but wanted to see what you did first.

Quality looks good and thanks to EmblemPros for the quick email updates, good guys indeed.

terrellble 06-22-2012 02:37 PM

Yerbuddy, man that looks good. I ordered the MMD decklid panel for mine.. just waiting for it.

There seems to be a slight gap on the top of the faux gas cap on mine, alittle worried about water getting in behind it so the decklid should take care of that
