Finished my Stripes today

If you take your time, doing it yourself is no problem. Plus, vinyl is cheap... so buy extra and redo to your heart's content until it's the way you want it. Shouldn't cost more than $200 for PLENTY of vinyl.
As for lining it up, it's not that big of a deal. Because of the curvature of the roof (not too much on the hood) your gap between the stripes will bow or widen hair in the middle. So if you are going for a 2" gap, it will be about 2.25" near the middle. You can't even tell because it follows the natural curve of the roof.
The harder part is doing the bumpers because it would need to be done in overlapping pieces. There is a more advanced way using finishing line tape so it can be done in one piece. But I don't bother with it because I don't like stripes on the bumpers.
My highlight (red) pinstripe is 1/2" stripe that comes in 150' rolls.
Even trial and error with lots of redo's shouldnt cost that much.
Use a wet method to install. Cover your squeegee with microfiber cloth so you don't scratch the vinyl. If you *must* cut on the car, use a very light touch with a razor (feather light is enough to cut the vinyl without harming the paint)
Have fun and get creative.
