Faux gas cap craziness

I noticed that the faux gas cap was coming loose from the rear deck. I decided that being it wouldn't just sit flat like it's supposed to I'd just pull it off and see how big the hump is and if it was drilled or anything. After pulling it off I figured I'd just head to napa and get some tape to put it back on. They didn't have any. The dealership is about a mile down the street so I headed there and they didn't have any either. I asked if they could just sell me a replacement or something. They're not in stock but they can order one for $150! One hundred and fifty dollars! It's @*#*%(@ plastic! Then the guy looks at me all crazy when I asked how high he is. I ended up finding the tape at the 3rd store I went to (Car Quest). Left the store just after it started raining.

Sounds like Panama City based on the distances and such.....lol

I would assume 3M super duty two sided sticky tape would suffice. You can pick up a roll at Home Depot. Make sure to clean the surface really well with 90% or higher rubbing alcohol. If there is any dirt/oils/grease, the tape could come loose.
I installed my quarter panel window louvers using 3M two sided sticky tape. It's been over 2 years and they are still hangin on!

Lol yeah I live in Panama City.

I found the 3M double sided tape used for name badges and put it back on as soon as it stopped raining. I really don't like the faux gas cap.

Too late lol. Thanks though, I'll definitely get some just in case.

AZPete I got your PM but I don't have enough posts to actually look at it lol. I'll hit you up though.

Our club is having a 25 year anniv. the 18-20 Oct. Wicked Wheel for a cruise in 6-8 on the 18th, Spinnakers 2-8 on the 19th, and some breakfast get togethers......unless you are a Bay Mustang Club member already and know of our fun....

TheDalaiLloyd 10-13-2013 01:55 AM

I didn't know, but it sounds good! I'm on leave so I'll be able to make it. What's the address for the club so I can get the details?

PMs are working now.

Scan down the first page and you will see some info. There is a link to more plus some use facebook under bay mustang also. I will most likely drive our '00 Lightning to the Friday evening cruise in and the Mustang on Sat. Hope to see you there.
