Default Frustrating wheel color problem.

So I got my Laguna Seca wheels powdercoated the darkest flat grey I could find... and in some lighting it looks spot-on perfect to what I wanted.

However... in a lot of lighting it looks significantly lighter. Kind of like those grey "parts department shelving units".... which makes it look cheap.

I'm wondering if I can do anything to correct it without having to pay to have the tires removed, pay to have the wheels re-powdercoated, and then pay to have the tires remounted, balanced and TPMS re-synced.

Clearcoat or something like it maybe?

Here's a picture of how it looks with the "right" lighting. (It's hard to get a picture to show the "bad" look)

plasti dip maybe to experiment and get the exact color you want. Then if you want it more permanent look get them powder coated again or hydro dip. But as far as doing something yourself without the risk of damage/permanent bad look you gotta go plast dip.

i would plastidip them. I dipped a set of winter wheels and they looked and held up great.

I had the same problem. I paid $500 for powdercoating, and they were too "milky" gray looking like a file cabinet. I ended up painting them with this rustoleum paint (dark nickel, I think) and am 95% happy with them. they are almost gunmetal looking.

That describes it exactly. from certain angles it's perfect looking, but others it looks significantly lighter.... like gray milk.
