Default How do you detail under the hood?

Hey guys, I'm looking to keep the engine bay nice and tidy. I'd prefer to stay away from soaking the whole thing in heavy degreaser. I'm not afraid to break a sweat and wipe it down by hand but I'm not sure of a good mult-purpose cleaner. I'm a fan of Meguiar's products and used their waterless wash to do a quick wipe down the other day. I have a couple questions:

1) Any particular product work really well for you in a hand wipe situation?

2) Have a look at the pic of my block. It's got dirt building up there and I don't know of a great way to get at it. I was thinking either hitting it with an electric leaf blower on low setting or fishing my shopvac down there. I can't think of a good reason why either of these options would be bad but thought I'd put it out there in case there's a huge red flag I'm missing.

It takes me hrs to prep the engine bay for a MCA judged car show. Lots of patience, long, air compressor and elbow grease. I actually hand wipe hoses and hand polish a few items I have (i.e., pulleys). Lots of work indeed.

never drive in the rain meself.
like i see in your piccy dust and grit build up is your problem
like the posts above said time and effore to keep it looking good..i use a air gun with a tiny nossel to blown off the dust n grit..i then use amoural for all the hoses and black plastics.
if you drive in the rain then your fighting a lost cause..if you do drive in the rain then i wouldn't bother meself..
i spend maybe 1 hour a week detailing under the hood in summer
