Default Sound Tube Delete

Hey guys, I know this information is widely available pretty much anywhere but I didn't see a write up on MF. I figured I'd snap a few pics while I did it.

In case you haven't seen this mod before, the unsightly corrugated plastic tube trailing from your intake to the firewall is only there to pump sound in to the cabin. As most of us have upgraded exhaust, the additional sound is generally immeasurable and therefore only leave the tube to be a useless eyesore.

It's my understanding that some V6 owners like to install them to improve on their sound note but I can only speak from a GT perspective and I think it's ugly.

Before and After:

1) Plier up and gently remove from intake.

2) This slips right off

3) 10mm bolt (Mine was modified to fit the hood struts. If you don't have hood struts, it will look slightly different but removes with a 10mm still.)

4) Gentle tug at the firewall and it should come loose easily.

5) Silicone the head gasket and plug the firewall hole.

6) Install cap on intake. I shaved the nubs on the intake side to get a flush fit. I'd call this optional but only took a moment so worth the added confidence in my mind.

I used silicone at the intake to adhere and seal the cap. It's a tight fit so again, optional but worth it to me.

Here are the parts I used. The silicone and PVC cap are from Lowes, the head gasket is from Advance Auto Parts. There are many options for the intake cap. I elected to go with the PVC as it was in stock. I'll likely change it down the road.

I filed down the letters before painting.

Here is the adhesion promoter (Advance Auto Parts) and enamel paint(Lowes) I used. I bought them for coil overs but needed to test them first on something. Otherwise I would've gone with flat black to match the intake.

Let me know if you have any questions.
