lower gas mileage when brand new?

6. If possible, try to fill up from same pump. It is said that the temp of the fuel in the storage affects how much gets into your tank to a small degree. I doubt very much, but if you're **** it's something else to try to control.
Think of all the bearings & surfaces that have to break in before the best mileage is achieved!

The last two cars I've owned that had running and average fuel economy displays always ran 1 to 2 mpg optimistic over my manual computations.
What Mr D. said about always trying to fill up at the same pump is also good advise. I've found on more than one car I've owned that how the car is sitting next to the pump can make a significant difference in how many gallons you'll get in the tank before the pump clicks off. Sometimes the concrete is leaning away from the pump, sometimes toward it, and sometimes it's pretty much level. Using the same station, same pump, with the car oriented in the same direction will help make the fill up process more consistent.

I flew out to California a couple of weeks ago to visit family and friends. I rented a V6 convertible for nine days. I absolutely loved the car and was able to drive it in a much wider variety of weather and terrain, top up and top down, than I would ever get around home and was very impressed. It sure beat a five mile test drive at a dealer.
I put two full tanks through it. Both were mixed driving with the second having a higher percentage of highway driving. The first was 24.2 and the second was 27.3. Not bad at all considering the overall conditions I was driving in. And I genuinely enjoyed the V6 engine. So it's not quite as fast as the Ecoboost, although not "that" much slower from what I've read, and definitely no match for the GT but it still ran very well. If Ford had offered it in a premium trim, I'd definitely consider it.
