Default What size tires to get?

I just got some rims from a friend and I need some advise as to what size tires to get. The rims are 17x9 bullet style rims and they will be going on to my 2011 mustang V6. He also gave me springs to lower the mustang an 1" in front and 1.25" in the rear. The tires that came on the rims are 245 45 17, but they look a little small sitting next to the stock rims and tires. I havnt installed the rims on the car yet, so Im not sure if they would look good or not. Not sure if I can take the stock tires off my rims and reuse them or if I need to buy new ones for it to look right.

Thanks, Joe

To measure wheel dimensions you can use your tire size ratings. The 245 part is the tirr width in millimeters and the 45 part is sidewall height expressed in % of the tire width so 45% of 245. Grab that number. Multiply by two(top and bottom sidewall). Convert from millimeters to inches and add it to 17 which is the rim size and you get the wheel and tire combo diameter. Do the same operation for the other set of wheels and compare

Oh forgot to add. If the new rims are a different diameter you need to play with the sidewall height in the formula to come up with the tire size that will allow u to match oem wheel dimentions as closely as possible

Thanks Upshift, The new rims are the same diameter, just an inch wider. If I understand your post correctly I should be able to use my old tires, they just wont stand as high on the sidewall?

I believe the widest you can go with a 9 inch rim is 275

If the rims have the same diameter and u use the
Old tires ull end up with the same diameter wheel as in the original setup sidewall will remain the same. However ur tire will be an inch narrower than the rims so im worried about how well sealed it will be.

I think im going to go with some 255/50-17, Im just worried that the 245/45-15 will look to small.
