Default 3.73 or 4.10

Hey guys, Im hoping some of you who have had either of these gears installed chime in on driveability, mpg, and overall fun of either 3.73 or 4.10s.

I will be getting some installed next week and its just a matter of which.

Any opinions welcome as well.

Thanks!

I LITERALLY just got home from the garage from having 3.73s installed. I haven't had a chance to beat on them yet, and wont for a little bit until I've run them in. So far, ive noticed much less pedal needed to get the car moving. I also noticed my tach sitting around 2k now at 70mph vs just above 1k before. New gears feel just as smooth and quiet as stock.. I'll have more impressions soon (within a day or 2) when a get a chance to do some more driving. but so far, so good.

At 70mph, your RPMs are at 2k? I have the 3.31s and 70MPH is also at 2k RPMs. I would think they would be higher.

I had ford racing 3.73's installed. I started with 2.73's. I dont really care what my rpm is or gas mileage. I had them installed cause they are a blast. It made my stang really accelerate. Okay, gas mileage I have been getting is around 24 to 26 hwy and 20 to 24 city. I have CAI and SCT tuner as well. I will tell you , if you want your Mustang to be a really fun car, get the 3.73's. Not sure about the 4.10's, may be a bit to much for street.
I guarantee you will love them.

what speed are you by the time you hit 3k in 1st?

and in my 3.31 I already find myself having to shift real early into 2nd/3rd or else I'm just riding at 3k+ RPM. On top of the notchy shifting as experienced with others, going from 1st to 2nd is a little more difficult and takes a bit longer without jerking, so if I get 3.73s, I really don't want to have to ride it up to 3k+ just to keep speed with traffic.

I said "around" 2k it certainly might be higher, a bit later tonight, i take another ride and report my RPMs at a few different speeds to get a more accurate measure.

Well I went out for another quick trip, all city and a fair amount of traffic, as I figured i actually have probably GAINED 1-2mpg around city, even with my leadfoot im now meeting the city EPA, something I had not done before.I'm sure ill lose it on the hwy, but thats to be expected. Shifts come MUCH quicker, 1st gear is pretty useless at partial throttle, it might stay for 1 sec tops. and it very quickly shifts up as high as possible.

I'll keep you posted on those RPMs

Edit: RPMs as follows:

70mph-2250rpm
65mph-2000rpm
60mph-1750rpm

RPMs as follows:

70mph-2250rpm
65mph-2000rpm
60mph-1750rpm

BTW the car is an auto.

If I've found a negative so far, it could be the "lurch" that some auto owners have felt coasting to a stop is WORSE, however, I did have BAMA update my tunes for the gears and I now will have my TACH turn red at WOT shifts, it never did this before, maybe they have tweaked the tune somewhat, and maybe the transmission shift points just need to be played with a bit, I'll ask them.
