Default Buying 2011 Worth it?

I am in need of a new car and Im tired of buying other peoples problems.. So this time around Ive decided to splurge on a new or very lightly used vehicle. I am very interested in the 2011/2012 mustang and was thinking of making it my choice. Although Im not really sure yet of the issues its going to have since it hasn't been out that long. I will be buying an auto.

I went to take a look at them and Im in love with the car, the interior is nice, the exterior isn't bad except for the ugly black plastic they stuck everywhere I still think a lot can be done with it. The power is decent and the gas mileage which is not only big to me because of my 50k commute each day but the BS gas prices that I have now.. $3.65 for regular is the cheapest here.

BUT- the one thing that deters me the most is the suspension. I am big on this and am really disappointed to see that they are using the same suspension from 2005? I really thought they would have done a better job 7 years later. Coil overs aren't even standard yet?

I had a 2004 with a very nice suspension and Id say it definitely stuck to the corners better then the 2005 did. So in a sense its a nice car the 2011 but I feel Id be going backwards.

I currently have a 99 Accord Ex with 160k miles on the stock suspension for the meantime, and the really sad reality is that it handles the same if not better then my 2004 mustang modded.. both the same weight. Except for the fact that Honda has a little more sway and cant grip as well which I expect. My honda is 12 years old..Am I missing something here?

I have found a 2011 performance package v6 in my area with 10k miles on it for $21k which is a good deal I think, just not to sure about this thing..

The only thing you can do is drive it. You sound like you already have decided the stock susp. is bad. I am happy with mine and unless you are headed for the local road course I believe the stock suspension works rather well. Only you know what you require so only you can decide.

i cant see a comparison between a 99 accord with a modded suspension. the only thing i feel like is **** from the factory is the dampers. have you read any of the comparisons? the new mustang suspension is keeping up and beating cars with way more tech in their suspension. it HAS been revised since 2005 dude. i suggest you read up some more.

I don't call stiffer sway bars, springs and dampers a real difference. From what I see its still an S197 that has very minor upgrades from 2005.

If suspension really is a big deal to you - why do you care what comes stock on any vehicle? Adding things like coilovers to stock only makes the base price more expensive while not necessarily putting the best or preferred equipment into the thing.

What do you think makes up a cars suspension? Are you saying the 2011 V6 is on par with the handling of your Honda Accord? I know you reference your 2004 Mustang but it seems like you're trying to lump them all into one category.

Granted the Peformance Package is going to be your best bet for an incredibly well mannered car but the potential is there for all 2011 Mustangs. And look at the track results of the 2011 Performance Package V6. Take the Lightning Laps for example. It beats cars like the Subaru STi, Mazda RX8. It was only beat the 2011 Mitsubishi Evo SE by 1.9 seconds. 3:12.5 vs 3:10.6. And that was with Mustang banging on the speed limiter for 15 seconds of the lap which really points to the Mustang making it up on handling.

How about .96g on the skidpad? lt's not a bad handling car and would smoke the 99 Accord in any and every category you compare them in.

The mind is already made up and just looking for an argument. The `11 suspension may look like an `05-`09 but having had an `07 and now the `11 I can tell you they are not anything alike in performance.

I had a 07 GT500 and had to do a few things to the suspension to make it handle better. IMO it still wasn't where it should have been. Because it was a DD with a 30 mile commute I traded for a 2011 V6 PP car and procharged it and am putting some gears in it now. I needed a car that was better on gas. From 12-18 on the Shelby to 17-24 on the V6 car. And the V6 Performance package car feels more balanced, handles better and has a better feel on the wheel. A lot better for a driver and I still have the LCA's and Watts link to put on it from the GT500. My experience driving a non PP v6 car was those were pretty good handling as well. The base platform of this car has good potential for both handling and power improvements if you wish to do so.

Yes, go test one out. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
