Real World Gas Mileage on Performance Package
I have a 2012 V6 Performance Package, and I'm averaging 20-23mpg (according to the trip computer). This is with resetting the calculation at each fill up, over 2 or 3 fill ups. I drive 70 miles round trip to work, mostly highway at 65-80mph. In between I'm driving enthusiastically whenever the opportunity presents itself, which isn't as often as I'd like :-)
What are you guys getting? |
Ouch. I'm non-PP so I can't give you a direct comparison. I've never dropped below 27 mpg.

I just got my V-6PP today. I need to break it in before I can give you an idea of its mileage.

Yeah, 72-75mph seems to be the edge of where your mpgs start to taper off. I typically stay below 75 and can manage right around 28mpg with 3.73 gears, but when I start doing 80, my mpgs will be something like 25mpg.
|
By the way, I originally had 3.31 gears but without the PP when I bought my car and averaged upper 29mpgs on the highway and 24-25mpg mixed driving.

I know with the 4.6L in my '07 GT that the mileage really begins to take a dive above 1800 RPM. It's about the same with my 4.0L SUV and with most other folk that I spoke to. My GT's mileage is a decent 24 MPG (for a V8) at 1900 RPM doing about 70 MPH and the fuel mileage increases by 2 MPG at 60 MPH. I've had a number of pump-to-pump hand calculations showing 28 MPG when I was "forced" to run 55 MPH on each fill-up.
Bottom line: speed kills... the wallet. |
I did a little experiment last night and set the cruise control at 55 the whole way home, and pulled 32 mpg. It really seems to be the case that once you get over 2k all bets are off.
Sucks getting passed by every Prius in Westchester though :-) |
I don't believe the rpm matters as much when cruising, as does the drag coefficient. The car has a lot more drag to overcome at 80 mph than it does at 55 mph. I'm seeing fairly good results just dropping from 80 to 70 mph (only a few hundred rpm lower).
