I occasionally drop the auto transmission to 3rd or 2nd to put the tach between 4,000 and 5,000 RPM depending on speed, then when the RPMs get just above 6,000 RPM, I nudge it forward from 2nd to 3rd or 3rd to Drive. Twice now in 6,000 miles the transmission has found neutral during up shifts. Wen it happens I let off the gas and in half a second it's found the right gear. The first time I thought I had nudged the lever to far forward so it briefly went past D towards N. But last week it happened between 2nd and 3rd.

So I'm guessing even when up shifting from 2nd to 3rd if I go just past 3rd towards D I can cause this? Or is it the transmission. This has never happened when I simply stomp the gas and let it find it's own gears, but then sometimes u don't get the gear u had in mind.

Since I don't have the 2013 thumb shift, are there things I need to be doing different or better? THANKS

Get a tune to change your shift RPM at WOT and quit messing with the stock shifter. Or get an aftermarket shifter. An interim option is to hit the hill climbing button or set the TCS to sport (if available). Both raise shift points and prevent transmission damage.

Who makes replacement shifters? I miss the j-gate that I have on my Jaguar.
