2011 v6 stock warranty issues with tuner
hi guys i want to get a bama tune for just 87 economy to get some better gas milage i dont need power but i guess i could also get the 93 octane performance tune just for track days but my question is. Has anyone had their warranty voided due to having changed the tune (ie. car has issues so you remove the tune and put stock tune back on) and then take it to the dealer to get serviced. i just dont want to throw $5k worth of extended warranty and service warranty down the drain.. i like my free oil changes. i dont plan on doing anything else to the car.

From what I have seen and read, each dealer is different on what they will do. Some are a PIA and some are cool, you might have to shop around.
Also, from what I know, there is no way for them to tell you have had a tune on there once you reset it back to factory...

Certain dealer's care more then others. The best thing to do is check with your local dealer and see what they say. We've seen both, a dealer drop a warranty from a custom tune, and a dealer agree to still cover the warranty with a car that was tuned. Bama tunes are extremely safe and conservative with every model/year Mustang we tune, so the chances of you even needed the warranty are low.
I just want to clear up that a dealer CAN tell that a car's PCM was changed at one point, even if it's flashed back to stock. The "checksums" will show a change on any '11+ Mustang that has been tuned at one point in time.
Let me know if any of you guys have more questions!

Most dealers are pretty cool about it if you're upfront. I had my CAI & tune installed right after I bought the car and never had any problems with warranty work. Off course, I didn't blow the tranny, rear or have any other driveline issues and had they refused me warranty work for totally unrelated issues, I think they knew they'd have a chit storm on their hands.

supposedly 2011+ mustangs timestamp the PCM everytime the car is tuned. I cannot verify that tho.
Changing gears / tuning is diff from power / tuning.
So yes, your dealer may be cool with you adjusting the ratio so that your speedo is right. But if you are tweaking the a/f ratio and messing with timing and shift points....dont count on any dealer doing any powertrain warranty work on your car.
