Anyone took an automatic to a track day?
Recently I've got the itch to take the car to a track day or a similar opportunity to drive on the track. Not looking to make any records, just the ability to drive the car closer to its real capabilities, not on a public road. One constraint is that I need a rollbar; but I was wondering more from an experience/satisfaction perspective, will it be enjoyable/satisfying with an auto transmission - i am ok with the manual control over the lower 3 gears, but with the 11' auto transmission one can not fully control the 4th and 5th gear (can only eliminate the 6th)
Any insights or experiences appreciated

My vert ran 14.632 @ 97mph. That was pure stock w/500 miles on it. I let the auto do the work. Don`t need a bar for anything above 13.5 sec. ET on most tracks. Top up, windows up and a helmet. As my sig shows I have added a little but it was fun the first time too. Just go and enjoy it!

I think that by track day he is talking about a road course snafu - the rules there do require a bar (only a 4 point though I think) for road courses with a convertible. Not like a drag strip where it is based upon the time you run.

It sucks with an auto, period.
I imagine it would hurt the tranny after a while on downshifts and if you plan to do it on the D position it will be a nightmare.
Your front brake pads will only be efficient for a few laps...

Yes, I was referring to a road course
Thanks for the input pascal, I was hoping to hear from someone with auto transmission (I assume you have manual, right?)
Your comment about the brake pads would be relevant to both manual and auto - is your point that one should not bother to go to track day without upgrading the breaks?
