Rust on a 2011????

Anyone else having this issue? I have rust starting on the front lip of the hood of my car. I plan to take it to the dealer to see about getting it fixed under warranty, but was curious if this was common.

WOW....Damn, never seen that yet. Hope thats not a common problem just waiting to show its ugly head. Hope they do something quick about that.

I think they will take care of it for me without much, if any, issues. It was suprising to me when I found it waxing my car this morning. Its not a spot where water sits or anything like that. It will be interesting to see what they say. I will keep everyone posted. The problem will be me getting it to the dealer soon. My work schedule is not exactly errand friendly.

i hope you get fixed

I looked at an '11 at Carmax and it had rust bubbling up under the paint on the front lip of the hood - I thought that meant it had been in an accident and not fixed right

I thought the hoods were aluminium?

capndar 10-15-2012 11:34 AM

technically oxidizing, not rusting

take a look at this thread

The 4.6L's had a hood/paint issue. I believe there was a TSB on it. Leave it to Ford to keep making the same mistake 7 years later. Our Stangs aren't built to very high standards, period.

i've also got bubbling paint on the front lip of my hood, this has to be covered under warranty, still under bumper-bumper

Went to the dealer today and have an appointment to drop the car off on Tuesday. They told me it was something common they have seen. Also said it is covered under warranty. They will only have it a couple of days.

Cool will definately check my hood when I return home from Afghanistan:icon_mrgreen:

This is a VERY common issue with all S197 Mustangs with Aluminum hoods. The E-coating wasn't applied properly and allows the aluminum to oxidize where the outer skin of the hood and inner structure meet. I worked at a Ford dealer for about a year, and I bet I saw at least 30 come in with that problem. Ford isn't helping people that are out of warranty either. So be aware of that. It's about an $800-$1000 fix out of pocket.

My thoughts exactly.....

I was just denied coverage under warranty to get this fixed. Unfortunately I drive 35 miles one way to work and I didn't notice the issue until 49K miles. Even though the car is 3 years old (two model years) I have 4 more years of payments for a car has an obvious production flaw.

Ford is supposed to have a 5 year unlimited mileage warranty on the body against corrosion or rust. I'd contest that with them or visit another dealership. They should fix this for you under warranty.

Yup^. I had the same issue with my '11 and they fixed it under warranty. It is a very comman problem that should have been fixed by now but hasent.
