Just ordered my 373's ford racing from A/M! Can't wait.
Just have to find good local performance shop to install now. Will update after install. Any body running these now have imput? |
You do have an aluminum driveshaft, right?

where do you guys recommend gears get installed? ford dealers? where should one go to get them installed without voiding warranty?

I just had my 4.10''s done at GTR High Performance in Rancho Cucamonga, CA a couple days ago They did a great job, no gear noise. If you bring all the bearings, installation kit, and gear oil, price will be $340

I guess the drive shaft issue can be debated over and over. But you should be fine with the stock drive shaft unless you plan on removing the speed limiter and driving it like you stole it. Speed costs $$. I have a 2010 v6 with a ProCharger, stock drive shaft and 7.5 with 3.73 gears. I has a similar two piece drive shaft and fragile rear axle. No issues yet and I've taken it to the strip and do some spirited driving. I don't try to burn off my rear tires - I know there's a limit. A drive shaft is my next mod but there's no reason you can't enjoy the gears until you have the cash for the drive shaft. Just know your boundaries.

I drove nearly 30,000 spirited miles with 3.73 gears and stock driveshaft. You guys need to stop creating hysteria. We also have members with gears who run their cars well into the triple digits as well as on the drag strip while still using the DS. Does a lighter, stronger DS help to improve performance and reliability? Yes. Is it absolutely needed? No. I would say that as long as you stay under 100mph for the most part, you will be fine without a doubt. Any time you test the limits of any car, you risk breaking things. People telling you what to do and don't even have the car.....that's all Ill say.

I've just always heard you need a 1 piece driveshaft if you even want to install gears above 2.73's. I guess it can be argued over and over again. I just know with how I drive, my next mod is the driveshaft before the gears.
