Assuming it's done right, it should be fine. Watch the AFR gage after you put it in, and if it's about the same or better you're likely good to go.

Thanks. I am talking to Ford directly now. I picked the car up yesterday from the dealer and this morning same thing with the hesitation and later the bump in the rear when taking my foot off the accelerator after a fairly brisk start. I think this thing is a lemon.

3.7convertible with 62,000 miles - engine runs great, reasonable power and gas mileage; transmission (auto) is a different story. Clunky shifts, then won't down shift with foot to the floor...wish I had found a manual

The other thing is that consumer reports has started to look at electronics in cars...gizmos like the MyTouch and stuff. The poor ratings on Fords electronics have really hurt Fords ratings in 'reliability' so much so that in 2014 they will be making the touch screens smaller and adding extra buttons for some of the more commonly used functions.

My 2011 6 Cyl is an automatic. It is still hesitating mostly when the engine is just started. I have had it in 3 times now and the dealer cannot duplicate the problem so it wont get fixed. Don't know what to do at this point except get rid of the car and pass the problem off on someone else. Ford knows of this problem--it affected the early 2011mustang 6 cyl. Mine was delivered in Oct 2010.
I did do a video of it but it wasn't that clear. I will post it on you tube and try to get a better one.

Somethings seriously wrong with your tranny dude, get it fixed.
Mines super smooth, with super quick downshifts in sport mode.

With my 2013 the Automatic transmission has 3 modes

Regular Economy with the shifter in the "D" position.
Sport mode in the "S" position
Manual Mode in the "S" position after you press +/- button.

In the Sport mode, shifting is much more aggressive.
But even in D if downshifts when you floor it.
