I've got a 2013 auto V6 with standard 2.73 gearing. At about 45mph it feels rough, like it's in too low a gear. I'm wondering if I put 3.31 gearing in if that rough spot will move or disappear. Not that I'd put in 3.31 to fix this problem--I have other reasons for wanting it--I'm just wondering if fixing the 45mph problem will be a bonus.

Anyone have similar experience with 2.73? Are there any "too low" rough spots with 3.31? For my commute it'd be unfortunate to pick up a rough spot at 55-60.

I have 2.7 gears on my 2011 v6 auto mustang, however I am not sure what you mean by it feeling rough at 45 mph? But then again I drive a 2011 so it could be just your year.

As for gears, all I know is if you go for a higher gear ratio, you will feel more torque and see your gas meter go down quicker haha. I am planning to get 3.7 gears eventually.

Amy, do you mean too high a gear (you said too low a gear)? Too high (or tall) causes low RPM and perhaps the roughness you're mentioning by being in sixth gear at 45 m.p.h.

Assuming the problem you meant is too high a gear, I get that because at 45mph you're only turning around 1,000 RPM and that can feel a bit rough. And your 3.31 will raise the RPM. I would say don't worry about it. Your car has enough torque even when it's gurgling at those low rpm's. You can always down shift.

Yes, sorry, I meant too high a gear. Low RPM. About 1000 at 45mph. Yes, I could use sport mode so I could down shift. I've just been driving faster :) "Sorry, officer, my car doesn't like to drive forty five."

I have no issues at 45MPH. She revs at 1k like you mentioned. Tools right along minding her own without any issues. If I drop the tranny to S, she steps down to third gear, revs up to around 2k and she tools right along, still minding her own business.

`13 V6 with the 2.73.

I am pretty sure that a new gear and tuning the tranny would get you a higher cruising RPM (say 1200 for the sake of arguement.) But the issue I find is not so much the low cruising RPM, but the amount of time it takes for the tranny to shift from fifth gear to second when I put the go pedal down. That is again, where a tuner would help from what I understand and read.

I am gonna be honest, the 2013 V6 powertrain will stand up and run, and I am pretty sure something like a 3.55 or 3.73 would embarrass a lot of cars on the street, or strip. I just don't want to jeopardize that 30+ MPG I see when I am tooling down the interstate at 70MPH and 1400RPM.
