I'd be interested to know, I like the deep roar/rumble the v8's give off.. Have heard some v6's that sound as throaty as a v8. Id be one to attempt to get rid of the raspy tone. Headers may help, maybe a whole new exhaust system. But for the 3.7L I doubt theres much that can be done.

If you goto AM, look at the MAC Pro box in the H-Pipe section of the page. I had JBA ceramic headers, High flow Cats, the MAC PRO, and axil back Magna Flows. The MAC Pro is an H-Pipe set-up with a steel box the size of a phone book where the H would be.
No rasp, makes the V6 sound like a V8. I believe they are $299. I would have kept that V6 but it got hit.

It sounds like you have an X Pipe. Get rid of that and install an H pipe and some 24 inch glass pacs directly under the cabin. I had the same problem and the H pipe and glass pacs completely cured it. Also, if you have the dreaded "drone" this setup will get rid of that too!

I wouldn't mind the down low torque of the SS, but I'd choose my car any day.

Never even think about giving up your "MADE in the USA" mustang for a FOREIGN made Camaro..

I made my V6 sound (more) like a V8 with the MAC Pro Chambers $350ish at AM. They put a steel box where the H in the H-Pipe is, it's about the size of a phone book. Gives your V6 a low rumble, no rasp.
