its the wrench light, it means there is a fault in one of the systems, you have to pull the codes to see what is up

Thanks . Yeah took it to ford house.since the tool icon (fault) had gone away after I restarted the engine they were not able to pull up any codes. I would have to get it towed to shop without starting motor back up. Happened twice I'll see what I can do if it happens again

VERY weird...if you get the light and there's NO code logged, it could be a bad ECU. ECU diagnostics see the problem, trip the light, and before it can log the issue it rolls snake eyes and dies. Maybe?

the wrench icon usually only comes up when its a throttle body issue, I.E. the drive by wire system. could have a dead spot in your gas pedal, or your TB motor isn't working properly. any upgrades in those areas? good luck

No upgrades but been hearing a lot about throttle body or throttle body controller issues with that fault . Just like you mentioned ,but trying to find a way to verify since ford won't act till they verify that's its bad, running ok right now but I expect to see it again .thanks for your comments.

I had a 2013 F150 with the ecoboost motor and a bad tune from sct and it would throw that wrench up and lack power but a simple key cycle would make it go away. Ended up narrowing it down to the tune making it do that. As custom tune wouldn't do it and stock tune wouldn't do it.
